FREE CLINIC FOR MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL

EUPHONIUM

(And Other Low Brass)

PLAYERS

On Thursday, February 18, 2010, the Ypsilanti Community Band will sponsor a free Clinic for middle and high school euphonium players.  On a "space available" basis, other low brass (trombone, tuba) players are welcome as well.  ("Space available" means that middle/high school euphonium players get to "go to the front of the room."  Trombone, tuba, and  players other than middle/high school students must "go to the back of the room," or, in an extreme case, watch/listen from an adjoining room or hallway.)

It is not necessary to pre-register for the Clinic.  Just "show up!"

The Clinic will be held between 6 and 7 p.m. in Room 101 of the Morris Lawrence Building on the Washtenaw Community College campus.  Parents and other transportation providers may relax in the Lobby/Atrium of the Morris Lawrence Building while the clinic is being held.

The clinician will be world-renowned professional euphonium player Adam Frey.  Mr. Frey, who is based in Atlanta, GA, will demonstrate and explain a number of things to do to become a better player on the euphonium (or other low brass instrument).  Two or three persons will be invited to bring an instrument and to perform a passage, for Mr. Frey's critique in front of the group, from a previously-prepared solo.  Without a special invitation to play, it is not necessary or appropriate to bring an instrument.

Following the Clinic, at 7:00 p.m., those who have attended the clinic (and those who have provided transportation for those attending the clinic) are invited to a free meal of pizza/pop and dessert, which is being generously provided by Domino's.

The Ypsilanti Community Band urges all who have attended the Clinic to remain for the Band's free concert at 7:30 p.m. in Towsley Auditorium of the Morris Lawrence Building and for the post-concert reception (for audience, Band, and guest artists) to be held in the Lobby/Atrium of the Morris Lawrence Building.  Refreshments will be served.

The Morris Lawrence Building is the east-most building on the Washtenaw Community College campus.  WCC is located at 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor.  There is plenty of free parking in the vicinity of  the Morris Lawrence Building and the main entrance to the building is on the east side.
